Biography - Ian Kennedy

Ian was born in Carlisle in 1981 and grew up in Birmingham. As a student at the University Nottingham he co-founded a unique student radio soap opera as Head Writer, producing 17 weekly episodes of Lenton Boulevard at URN 1350. The series won 'Best Entertainment Show' at the 2003 Radio 1 Student Radio Awards. As he completed his degree Ian also wrote and appeared in the offbeat hit play Haze at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

After joining a further Fringe play and work at Radio 1 and BBC Radio Nottingham, Ian became a freelance producer and writer in 2004. He became a scriptwriter for BBC Asian Network drama Silver Street at this time and continues to work for the series. He has worked as a freelance producer for BBC Radio Five Live, BBC WM and Castle Vale Community Radio. Ian has also been a member of the BBC West Midlands Local Advisory Council from 2005 until its closure in 2006, and professionally advises new writers and edits scripts for Arts Council funded group The Radio Rep.

In 2006 Ian launched IQK to promote his work and offer his services to creative projects in new areas. He directed a powerful drama in HMP Birmingham for BBC WM and also wrote a topical new adaptation of Dario Fo's 'Can't Pay? Won't Pay!' for the Edinburgh Fringe. As well as continuing his existing work, Ian has also begun to enter the screen industries by representing an extensive body of potential filming locations, a venture which aims to also generate a production company capable of generating and attracting new kinds of filming work.
