Children’s Television Drama: Talib & The Woid. Ian was approached by the Head of English Programming of Islamic Sky TV channel Noor TV (Sky 822) to help realise a series for children on this international channel. Ian provided script editing and consultancy to help the Director deliver a pilot episode, which broadcast many times on the channel, and Ian afterwards provided a more formal proposal to realise the series, reconceiving the series with a dynamic and enjoyable script for a first episode. A charity based at the station, Alehya Trust, also consequently consulted IQK to help it develop new projects.

Filming Locations: IQK Studios. A partnership with International Stock and its affiliate companies, this venture provided a large number of extensive and charismatic properties as filming locations. The purpose of the initiative, proposed and led by IQK, was to make use of properties in disuse, so the project came to a natural end after a year when the largest and most flexible spaces were snapped up by eager property developers.

Ethical Enterprise and National Publisher: WhatsOnUK/ CityGuides. WhatsOnUK publish high-quality annual publications targeting the youth demographic, and Ian’s first contribution was to propose a new integrated sales and accounts system to modernise its operations and significantly increase its productivity. As a result Ian was taken on as Projects Manager by the parent company, CityGuides, which also ran the ethical venue cafeOne. When the company and its neighbours were faced with the sudden closure of their premises to make way for redevelopment, Ian launched the ‘Save Five Ways’ campaign on behalf of these and other independent businesses, proposing a new area of Birmingham City Centre to be set aside for independent businesses, venues and community interests that are being squeezed out by redevelopments and rising land values. Succeeding in gaining widespread media coverage (Channel 5 News, BBC WM, Birmingham Mail, Birmingham Post, Birmingham News, and WhatsOnUK’s publications including a feature written by Ian) and supported by politicians including Clare Short, the campaign succeeded in gaining an extension to the company’s tenancy and raising awareness of the issues facing small businesses in our city centres. Ian also made a Business Plan to enable the company’s relocation to boost its business, and prepared a funding application to help the company make this possible. Ian also provided other snappy content for WhatsOnUK’s publications.
