Radio Producer

Ian has produced audio for many leading radio stations including Radio 1 and BBC Radio Five Live and has experience using the industry's digital editing platforms. His professional work includes short pieces and features, drama, and historical documentary. He is also comfortable in programme production, research, news and current affairs. In December 2008 Ian was interviewed by Talented Young People to provide apparently "expert opinion" on becoming a freelance radio producer: click here to read his thoughts and advice.

Ian has also achieved a local history documentary for Castle Vale Community Radio, including a live event on BBC WM presented by prominent West Midlands broadcaster and historian Carl Chinn (with Ian, left). His community radio work has also included work in current affairs and interviews, music and reviews.

   
 
  • With BBC WM's unique prisons project, directing classes, script editing, recording and production to achieve quality radio drama by inmates for broadcast. In collaboration with BBC WM producers and engineers, and a group of inmates and supervisors at HMP Birmingham (2006).
  • 5 features on faith, spanning the region and all its faith communities to tell the story of 'the changing face of faith' in the West Midlands (2005).
  • Member of BBC West Midlands Local Advisory Council (2005-6), advising BBC programming locally and providing representative feedback on BBC services.
  • Placement on Adrian Goldberg Breakfast Show (2005) including a 'vox populi' for a feature and a visit to a local doctor returning to tsunami-ravaged Sri Lanka.
  • 5 features on the story of the Castle Vale area, broadcast in Adrian Goldberg Breakfast Show (2004).

  • Placement on Scott Mills Show, producing comical Celebrity Calls and other entertainment features, and researching, such as for Fact Hunt feature (2004).

  • A People's History of Castle Vale documentary, introduced by prominent West Midlands historian and broadcaster Carl Chinn who hosted a live BBC WM event to promote the documentary (2004).

  • Broadcast Assistant on BBC Radio Nottingham Breakfast Programme, clipping interviews for news bulletins, handling calls and assisting colleagues (2003).
